Flesh and Hair Linked to Bangladesh MP Found in Kolkata Flat
In a significant development in the investigation of a suspected murder case involving Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar, the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has made a crucial discovery. On Tuesday, investigators recovered fragments of flesh and strands of hair from the septic tank of a flat in the New Town area, near Kolkata, where the lawmaker was believed to have been killed. The arrested suspect, identified as a professional butcher, is alleged to have dismembered the politician's body into 80 pieces, treating them with turmeric before disposal at various locations, including a canal in New Town.

According to CID officials, approximately 3.5 kg of flesh and some hair strands were extracted from the septic tank for forensic analysis to ascertain if they belonged to Anar. The search operation extended to the Bagjola canal adjacent to an amusement park near Rajarhat, with the Disaster Management Team of Kolkata Police employing drones and divers in their efforts. The heavy rainfall following Cyclone Remal posed significant challenges to the search operation, raising concerns that aquatic animals might have consumed the body parts.
The investigation into Anar's disappearance began in earnest after Gopal Biswas, a resident of Baranagar and an acquaintance of the MP, reported him missing on May 18. Anar had arrived in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment and was staying at Biswas's residence. He was last seen leaving for a doctor's appointment on May 13 and had not been heard from since May 17.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch has also joined the investigation, with a three-member team led by Chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid arriving in Kolkata. In light of difficulties in recovering the body parts, Bangladesh Police have indicated that DNA testing on blood specimens found at the New Town flat may be conducted. These tests would compare the samples with DNA from Anar's relatives to confirm his identity and facilitate legal proceedings.
This case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the victim and the grisly details surrounding his suspected murder. The collaborative efforts between Indian and Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies underscore the seriousness with which this investigation is being conducted. As forensic analyses are pending and search operations continue, authorities are determined to uncover the truth behind Anwarul Azim Anar's disappearance and presumed murder.
