Baloch Leader Warns India of Pakistan–China Security Threat in Open Letter to Jaishankar

Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch has warned the Indian government that the expanding Pakistan-China partnership in Balochistan could emerge as a direct security threat to India, alleging that Chinese troops may eventually be stationed in the region under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The warning was issued in an open letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and dated January 1. Mir Yar Baloch shared the letter on social media platform X, tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urging sustained attention from New Delhi on developments in Balochistan.

In the letter, Mir Yar Baloch described the Pakistan-China strategic axis as a "grave and imminent" danger, claiming that CPEC had entered its final stages. He alleged that a permanent Chinese military presence in Balochistan would not only impact local communities but also alter the regional security balance in a manner unfavourable to India.

The Baloch leader portrayed Pakistan as an occupying power and accused its authorities of decades-long repression in Balochistan. The letter cited enforced disappearances, security crackdowns and denial of political and economic rights, claiming that Baloch communities had faced systemic suppression for nearly eight decades.

Mir Yar Baloch urged India to treat what he referred to as the "Republic of Balochistan" as a serious political entity and called for tangible and reciprocal cooperation rather than symbolic support. He argued that shared security concerns warranted structured engagement between India and Baloch representatives.

Beyond security issues, the letter also stressed historical and cultural links between India and Balochistan. Mir Yar Baloch highlighted the Hinglaj Mata Temple, also known as Nani Mandir, located inside Hingol National Park in Balochistan, describing it as a shared religious and cultural site for Indian and Baloch devotees. He said the temple symbolised longstanding civilisational ties that should inform India's approach to Balochistan.

The letter opened with New Year greetings to Indians and praised the security posture of the Modi government. Mir Yar Baloch specifically referred to Operation Sindoor, described in the letter as India's counterterror response following the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre. He characterised the operation as a signal of India's willingness to act decisively against Pakistan-backed terrorism and suggested similar resolve could extend to Baloch concerns.

The appeal comes amid continuing unrest in Balochistan, where separatist groups and rights organisations have long accused Pakistan of human rights violations. In recent years, attacks and clashes involving Baloch militant groups have increasingly targeted infrastructure and projects linked to Chinese interests, particularly those associated with CPEC.

Mir Yar Baloch's letter combined security, political and cultural arguments to press for a stronger Indian engagement on Balochistan, framing Pakistan-China activities in the region as a shared concern with implications beyond local politics.
