Baby Rescued from Borewell in Odisha Reunited with Biological Parents After 22 Days

A baby girl rescued from an abandoned borewell in Sambalpur, Odisha, has been reunited with her biological parents after 22 days. The mother, who is married, is undergoing treatment for postpartum depression.

After a harrowing 22-day ordeal, a baby girl who was rescued from an abandoned borewell in a forested area of Odisha's Sambalpur district has finally been reunited with her biological parents. The baby, now named 'Bijayini' by doctors, was found trapped 13 feet deep in the borewell at Laripali on December 12, 2022.

Identification of Biological Parents

The police were able to identify the baby's biological parents within 2-3 days of her rescue. However, due to the mother's compromised mental state, she was unable to provide details about the incident. She is currently undergoing treatment for postpartum depression at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

DNA Test for Verification

To ensure the biological connection, the police will conduct a DNA test. The baby's mother is married, and the baby is her second child. The details of the incident are still unclear, and the investigation will continue after the mother is discharged from the hospital.

Improving Health of Baby

Meanwhile, the baby's health condition is improving. She has started taking food, and her weight has increased from 1600 grams at the time of rescue to 1935 grams. Her internal bleeding has also stopped, according to the doctor attending to her.
