Babri verdict: Nine things the Supreme Court said

In the verdict, the Supreme Court restored criminal conspiracy charges against LK Advani and other BJP leaders

The Supreme Court dealt a major blow to senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and nine others in the Babri Masjid demolition case. The court ordered that these persons would be tried for criminal conspiracy and the trial should be completed in two years. "No adjournments," the SC ordered.

Here are the top directives and observations by the Supreme Court:

• The CBI's plea to revive criminal conspiracy charges against the senior BJP leaders nine others has been allowed. The order of the Allahabad high court which upheld the dropping of charges on a technical ground has been reversed.
• The case will be shifted from Rae Bareli to Lucknow. The trial will commence in four weeks.
• There will be no fresh trial and the Rae Bareli and Lucknow courts hearing the cases will be clubbed. The case will be heard in Lucknow.
• There shall be no adjournments in the case and the trial judge will conduct a day-to-day hearing. The case will be completed in two years.
• The case will not be moved out till the trial is completed.
• The CBI will have to ensure the presence of one prosecution witness at every hearing.
• The case will not be adjourned for want of witnesses.
• Any party can approach the SC if the directions are not followed.
• On Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, charges will be framed once he ceases to hold the position as now he enjoys Constitutional immunity.
