The Shia Wakf Board on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court that the Ram temple be built at the disputed site and the mosque be located at a reasonable distance in a Muslim-dominated area, said reports.

The Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) said, in the affidavit, that only they are entitled to negotiate and arrive at a peaceful settlement with other remaining stake holders.

"Masjid can be located in a Muslim dominated area at a reasonable distance from Shree Ram birth place," reports quoted the affidavit as saying.

After a two-day meeting last month, the Shia board had decided to challenge a 1946 court order that awarded the ownership of the Babri mosque to the Sunni Central Waqf Board, said reports.

It must be recalled that the Babri case is being represented by both the Sunni and Shia Waqf Boards from the Muslim side.

The affidavit also states that proximity of place of worships should be avoided as it may result in conflicts and acrimony.

The Shia board has also said in the affidavit that it wants a peaceful solution to the dispute.

The dispute is over a plot in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya which Hindus claim as the birth place of Lord Ram and a Mosque that stood there was demolished by kar sevaks on December 6, 1992.
