On Sunday, police in Khatima, Uttarakhand, apprehended three individuals in connection with the double murder of a priest and a sevadar at the Baba Bharamal temple. The victims, Baba Harigiri Maharaj and Rupa, were brutally beaten to death with sticks on the intervening night of January 4 and 5, and cash and other items were stolen from the temple.

Former Sevadar, Aghori Baba, and History-Sheeter Among Arrested
The arrested individuals include Kalicharan, a former sevadar at the temple, Rampal, an aghori baba, and Pawan, a history-sheeter from Pilibhit district in Uttar Pradesh. Investigations revealed that Kalicharan and Rampal had attended a community kitchen organized at the temple and stayed on the premises after consuming liquor.
Priest Scolds Duo for Drinking, Leading to Conspiracy
When Baba Harigiri scolded them for drinking, the duo left the temple but later conspired to kill the priest. They enlisted the help of Pawan, and on the day of the incident, they attacked the priest first. Rupa, who tried to protect him, was also killed, while another sevadar, Nanhe, was injured.
Investigation Challenges and Reward for Police Team
The investigation faced challenges due to the absence of CCTV cameras at the crime scene and the limited information provided by the injured sevadar. Despite these obstacles, the police interrogated over 1,200 people and examined more than 1,000 cameras during their investigation. As a token of appreciation, a reward of Rs 2,500 was announced for the police team involved in the case.
The arrest of the three individuals involved in the double murder of the priest and sevadar at the Baba Bharamal temple in Khatima marks a significant development in the case. The investigation highlights the dedication and perseverance of the police in solving the crime despite the challenges they faced. The community can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the perpetrators have been brought to justice.
