Khan, the son of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, represented Suar in Rampur district in the Assembly.

"Abdullah Azam Khan has been disqualified following the Moradabad court order sentencing him to two years (in jail) in a 15-year-old case. His seat has been declared vacant from February 13," a senior official of the Assembly said.

Abdullah Azam Khan, along with his father, was sentenced under section 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) over a dharna on a state highway on January 29, 2008 as their cavalcade was stopped by police for checking in the wake of an attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur on December 31, 2007.

He was earlier disqualified in 2020 after the Allahabad High Court set aside his election to the Assembly.

Abdullah Azam Khan was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Suar constituency in Rampur district in the 2017 state assembly elections. However, his election was challenged by his rival, Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, on the grounds that he was underage at the time of filing his nomination papers. The Allahabad High Court declared Abdullah Azam Khan's election null and void in December 2019.

Abdullah Azam Khan is a member of the Samajwadi Party, which is a regional political party in Uttar Pradesh. He has been involved in several controversies, including making controversial statements and being accused of land grabbing.

On 9 September 2019, Abdullah along with his mother Tazeen Fatma got a notice for allegedly grabbing land of farmers to build Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. He was also booked under section 447 and 184 for allegedly encroaching on the government land for his Humasafar Resort.
