Azam Khan didn't do anything for riot-hit Muzaffarnagar: BJP MP
Muzaffarnagar, Nov 18: Accusing Azam Khan of failing to chair any district planning committee meeting for the last eight months as incharge of riot-hit Muzaffarnagar district, BJP MP Sanjeev Baliyan has sought nomination of another minister for the post.
Union Minister of State For Agriculture Affairs Baliyan yesterday during a press conference demanded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to change Azam Khan as incharge of riot-hit Muzaffarnagar district for failing to hold any meeting since last eight months.
He has not visited the district since 14 months, he said, adding another minister be made incharge.
When asked about the inquiry of Muzaffarnagar riots, Baliyan said that if the state government recommends a CBI probe in the same, the Centre will immediately initiate it.
A commission of retired judge of Allahabad High Court Vishnu Sahai, constituted on September 9 last year, is probing into one of the worst communal clashes the state witnessed under the Samajwadi Party government.
The state government had asked the commission to probe the violence starting from Kawal incident on August 27, 2013 and submit its reports in two months but later the deadline was extended.
Nearly 60 people were killed and more than 50,000 were displaced by the riots. Akhilesh Yadav government as well as the state administration were criticised for failing to control the riots.
The Commission was also asked to look into administrative lapses, if any, in controlling the violence in Muzaffarnagar and surrounding districts.
