Ayodhya Scandal: Contractors Charged with Cheating Over Missing Lights

The Ayodhya administration announced on Wednesday that it will take legal action against two contractors for allegedly cheating. The contractors claimed that around 3,800 bamboo lights and 36 projector lights, valued at over Rs 50 lakh, were stolen from Bhakti Path and Ram Path in a high-security area. However, the administration suspects the lights were never installed.

Ayodhya Light Installation Scandal

An FIR was registered at the Ram Janmabhoomi Police Station on August 9 following a theft complaint by Yash Enterprises and Krishna Automobiles. These companies had been contracted by the Ayodhya Development Authority to set up the lights. The police confirmed this information.

Investigation and Allegations

Ayodhya Commissioner and Chairman of the Ayodhya Development Authority, Gaurav Dayal, stated that an investigation is underway. "We have decided to lodge an FIR against the contractors on charges of cheating the government," he said. The administration believes the lights were likely never installed.

According to the FIR, one of the firms discovered the theft in May but delayed filing a complaint until August 9. Shekhar Sharma, a representative of one of the firms, mentioned in the complaint that all lights were present until March 19. However, during an inspection on May 9, it was found that some lights were missing.

Political Reactions

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticised the BJP-led state government over law and order issues in Ayodhya. He expressed his concerns on social media, stating, "Thieves have disrupted the law and order situation in UP-Ayodhya. The BJP government means Andher Nagari city of lawlessness. Today's Ayodhya says it does not want BJP."

The project to refurbish Ayodhya was part of preparations for the January 22 Ram temple consecration ceremony this year. As many as 6,400 bamboo lights were installed on Ram Path and 96 projector lights on Bhakti Path as part of this major project.

Details of Missing Lights

Shekhar Sharma's complaint highlighted that approximately 3,800 bamboo lights and 36 projector lights have gone missing since May. The theft was carried out by unknown individuals. This incident has raised questions about security measures in place for such high-value installations.

The administration's decision to file an FIR against the contractors indicates a serious approach to addressing potential fraud. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover whether the theft claims are valid or if there was any misconduct by the contractors involved.

The situation continues to develop as authorities delve deeper into the matter. The outcome of this investigation will be crucial in determining accountability and ensuring such incidents do not recur.

The Ayodhya administration's actions reflect a commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in public projects. The case has also brought attention to the need for stringent security measures for valuable public installations.

This incident underscores the importance of timely reporting and thorough inspections in preventing potential fraud or theft in public projects. The authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
