Avalanche From Kuber Bhandar Glacier Near Badrinath In Uttarakhand, No Casualties Reported

On Friday, an avalanche descended from the Kuber Bhandar glacier near Badrinath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. It reached the upper areas of the Kanchenjunga river. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, according to officials. The event is considered a regular occurrence in this region.

District Disaster Management Officer Nand Kishore Joshi mentioned that the avalanche stopped several hundred metres above the Badrinath National Highway. He noted that such events are typical in this area. Locals observed a section of the glacier descending with a loud noise, which captivated many devotees present at the site.

Avalanches: A Common Phenomenon

Pitambar Singh Molfa, who once led Mana village, explained that avalanches from the snow-covered peaks of the upper Himalayas are not unusual. He added that glaciers often melt and break off on both sides of the Kanchenjunga, and pilgrims frequently witness these occurrences.
