Australian Army Chief Begins India Visit, To Inspect Elite Shatrujeet Brigade In Agra

Australian Army Chief Lieutenant General Simon Stuart arrived in New Delhi on Monday for an official visit aimed at boosting bilateral defence cooperation and strategic engagement between India and Australia. His visit is scheduled from 11 to 14 August 2025.

The visit began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, where General Stuart paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Indian Armed Forces. He later met with senior leadership of the Indian Armed Forces to discuss avenues for deeper military collaboration.

On Tuesday, General Stuart will travel to Agra to visit the elite 50 (Independent) Parachute Brigade-popularly known as the Shatrujeet Brigade. This specialised airborne formation, headquartered in Agra, is renowned for its rapid deployment capabilities. Operating under the direct command of the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), the brigade is a self-contained, highly mobile force comprising airborne battalions, artillery batteries, a field hospital, as well as signal and engineer units.

During his Agra visit, General Stuart will interact with personnel across all ranks and take in the sights of the iconic Taj Mahal. He will then return to New Delhi to deliver a keynote address at the National Defence College.

According to the Ministry of Defence, this high-level visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly in the field of defence cooperation.
