The bodies of the two brothers were handed over to the family members after conducting the post-mortem examination for performing the last rites.

The graveyard is located in the ancestral village of Ahmed and his son Asad Ahmed, who was killed in an encounter days ago in Jhansi, was also buried in the same graveyard.

Also, it is also the same place where the gangster's ancestors were buried.

On Saturday, Asad Ahmad's last rites were performed at the Kasari Masari graveyard amid heavy police security and a few distant relatives and locals were present inside the burial ground. However, Atiq was denied permission to attend the last rites of his son.

"I have also dug the grave of his (Atiq's) father. My father had dug the grave of his mother," Janu Khan, the grave digger, told a news agency.

Three men identified as Lavlesh Tiwari (22) of Banda, Mohit alias Sunny (23) of Hamirpur and Arun Maurya (18) of Kasganj killed Atiq Ahmed when police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup around 10 pm on Saturday.

The accused have told the cops that they wanted to make a name for themselves and establish their identity in the state by eliminating Atiq Ahmad's gang, according to the FIR.

Meanwhile, a Prayagraj court has sent the accused to 14 days' judicial custody.

"Three accused in Atiq-Ashraf killing sent to 14 days' judicial custody by a court here," PTI quoted lawyer Manish Khanna, who represented Ahmad, told PTI.

On the other hand, the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government has formed a three-member judicial enquiry committee to probe the case.

Meanwhile, a plea has been moved in Supreme Court by an advocate, Vishal Tiwari, seeking to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of former SC Justice to inquire into the 183 encounters which had occurred since 2017 as stated by UP Special DGP (L&O) and also to inquire into police custody murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed, ANI reported.
