Assets of some MLAs in Tripura grew in the range of 4 to 4,890%

The Tripura assembly elections will be held on February 16, while counting of votes will take place on March 2

New Delhi, Feb 10: The elections in Tripura will be held on February 16 while countries will take place on March 2 2023.

Data shows that out of the 43 re-contesting MLAs in Tripura, the assets of 41 MLAs has increased in a range of 4 per cent to 4,890 per cent.

Assets of some MLAs in Tripura grew in the range of 4 to 4,890%

The report prepared by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Tripura Election Watch analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 43 re-contesting MLAs in the Tripura Assembly.

Out of the 43 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 41 MLAs (95%) have increased ranging from 4 per cent to 4,890 per cent and assets of 2 MLAs (5%) have decreased ranging from -1 per cent to -99 per cent.

Comparison between 2018 and 2023:

Average Assets in 2018 Elections: The average assets of these 43 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2018 was Rs 1.48 Crores.

Average Assets in 2023 Elections: The average asset of these 43 re-contesting MLAs in 2023 is Rs 2.42 Crores.

Average Asset growth in 5 years (2018-2023): The average asset growth for these 43 re- contesting MLAs, between the Tripura Assembly Elections of 2018 and 2023 is Rs 94.58 Lakhs.

Percentage growth in 5 years (2018-2023): Average percentage growth in assets for these 43 re-contesting MLAs is 64%.

Top 5 Re-contesting MLAs with highest asset increase (Rupees- wise)

Dr. Dilip Kumar Das of BJP from Barjala (SC) constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 6.47 Crores i.e from Rs 1.87 Crores in 2018 to Rs. 8.35 Crores in 2023.

Assets of Biswa Bandhu Sen of BJP from Dharmanagar constituency has increased by Rs 5.32 Crores, from Rs 4.40 Crores in 2018 to Rs 9.73 Crores in 2023.

Assets of Jishnu Dev Varma of BJP from Charilam (ST) constituency have risen by Rs 4.51 Crores, from Rs 11.07 Crores in 2018 to Rs 15.58 Crores in 2023.

    Tripura Elections 2018:

    The last election held in Tripura was in February 2018. The elections were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT). The two defeated the incumbent Communist Party of India (Marxist) led government. The BJP and IPFT alliance 43 of the 60 sets, while the CPI(M) managed to bag just 16 sats. This was one of the biggest wins for the BJP as it managed to defeat the CPI (M) which had been in the state for 25 years.
