Assault by Indigo staff: Aviation minister summons stakeholders

Condemning the manhandling by the Indigo staff at the IGI airport, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Wednesday summoned the stakeholders in connection with the brawl at Delhi airport.

Raju sought a report from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of the incident.

''Violence of any sort is deplorable and should result in criminal action,'' he was quoted as saying.

Private airline IndiGo was on Tuesday accused of manhandling a passenger at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The passenger, identified as Rajiv Katyal, had flown in from Chennai on 6E 487.

The video shows the ground staff asking a passenger why he used an abusive word against them and pushed him. The passenger fought back and fell to the as a scuffle broke out between the two. The Indigo staff could be seen assaulting the passenger instead of taking him to the Central Industrial Security Force personnel or other appropriate authorities.

IndiGo Airlines issued a statement regarding the incident.

''Incident probed by a designated committee. Took action against staff who was the main culprit, by immediately terminating his employment,'' the statement added.
