A 60-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly beheading his wife during a heated argument in front of their daughters, before walking to a police patrol post carrying her severed head, Hindustan Times reported.

The accused, identified as Britesh Hajong, is said to have killed his wife, Baijayanti Hajong (50), at their residence in the North Ballamguri area of Bijni, Chirang, on Saturday evening, according to Chirang Superintendent of Police, Akshat Garg.

"He has been taken into custody, and interrogation is currently underway. The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established," Garg stated.

The victim's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. "We are actively investigating the case, and statements from the two eyewitnesses will be officially recorded," an officer involved in the probe confirmed.

According to family members, Britesh was known to have anger management issues and had a history of abusing his wife.

"They were arguing again that day, and all of a sudden, he grabbed a machete, beheaded Baijayanti, and left the house," said a relative.

A case has been filed under Section 103 (murder) and other pertinent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have recovered the weapon used in the crime and have sent it for forensic analysis.
