Assam Governor extends I-Day greetings
Guwahati, Aug 13: Assam Governor P B Acharya on Thursday extended Independence Day greetings to the people and said "insurgency and violence" cannot be justified as means for achieving any end.
"On this proud day, we salute our patriotic leaders who gave us our hard earned independence. India's struggle for Independence has a long history. Every part of India, including the North-east contributed equally towards the Nation's Independence," Acharya said.

"Let us all join our hands for building a 'Shashakt, Samriddh, Niryog and Shantimay Bharat'," Acharya said. "We are a pluralistic Society. We respect Diversity", the Governor said.
Asserting steps had been initiated for lasting peace and towards greater development and improvement of the infrastructure and communication networks of the region, he said, "Insurgency and violence cannot be the means to any end."
Talks are the only ways to achieving positive results, Acharya added.
