Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Congress for Omitting Northeast from India Map

The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticized Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party for allegedly excluding the northeastern region from an Indian map shared on social media. In response, Gaurav Gogoi, a state MP from the party questioned him about alleged land deals linked to his family.

Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has publicly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a map of India shared on social media by the party. The northeastern region of the country is noticeably absent from this representation. This omission sparked an acrimonious exchange between Sarma and Gaurav Gogoi, a member of parliament for the state from the Congress party.

The Social Media Spat

Himanta Biswa Sarma vs Rahul Gandhi

Sarma took to social media to express his discontent about the missing northeastern region in the map. He posted a screenshot of an animated video that originated from an official handle of the Congress party. The video contained caricatures resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi with a map where Northeast India was not visible. In his post, Sarma insinuated that there might be some clandestine deal by which Congress is planning to sell off Northeastern lands to another country.

Gogoi’s Retort

In response to these allegations, Gaurav Gogoi promptly responded asking Sarma about land deals involving companies tied to his family members. According to him, these questions have remained unanswered by Sarma who seems keen on avoiding them.

Allegations Surrounding Credit Subsidy

This incident comes amidst ongoing verbal skirmishes between both parties since Wednesday concerning allegations against Sarma's wife's company receiving a credit subsidy worth Rs 10 crore from central government under certain schemes. These claims were made by Gogoi who also mentioned concerns about restrictions on his account on X – formerly known as Twitter – although no official statement has been issued by this popular micro-blogging platform regarding such actions.

Political Tensions Escalate

The political tension between BJP led Assam Government and opposition party Congress has been escalating rapidly over the past few days. This recent social media spat is a clear indication of the strained relations between both parties and their leaders. The absence of Northeast India in Congress's map has not only sparked controversy but also raised questions about the party’s commitment towards this region.

In conclusion, these allegations and counter-allegations have intensified the ongoing political feud in Assam, casting a shadow over other pressing issues that need attention. It remains to be seen how this situation will evolve and what impact it will have on the political landscape of Assam specifically, and Northeast India more broadly.
