Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Treated to Local Delicacies in Bongaigaon
In a recent visit to Bongaigaon, Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma experienced the local hospitality firsthand, indulging in a variety of traditional Assamese dishes. The visit, aimed at drumming up support for the BJP-led alliance's candidate Phani Bhusan Choudhury in the upcoming elections, turned into a culinary delight for Sarma at Choudhury's residence.

Phani Bhusan Choudhury, a prominent figure of the Asom Gana Parishad and the current MLA of Bongaigaon, is setting his sights on the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency, currently held by the opposition Congress. In an attempt to bolster his campaign, Sarma's visit was marked by a warm reception and an elaborate meal prepared by Choudhury's wife, Dipti Choudhury.
The menu boasted an array of local delicacies, including three types of fish - kaoi, chital, and ilish (hilsa), along with meat, koldil (banana flower), and pudina (spearmint). The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction with the meal, humorously noting that it was bound to be delicious as it was prepared by Choudhury's sister-in-law.
Dipti Choudhury shared her excitement and slight nervousness about hosting the Chief Minister. She admitted to being unsure about Sarma's culinary preferences but was ultimately pleased with the successful meal. The visit not only served as a political strategy but also showcased the rich cultural and culinary heritage of Assam.
Throughout his day-long tour, Sarma visited various parts of Barpeta and neighboring constituencies. His efforts were aimed at consolidating support for the ruling alliance's candidates in these areas. This visit underscores the importance of local culture and personal relationships in political campaigns within Assam.
Phani Bhusan Choudhury's attempt to win over the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency from Congress is significant. Holding the record as the longest-serving legislator in the state, his campaign receives a notable boost with Sarma's backing. The Chief Minister's engagement with local traditions and cuisine during his visit highlights a blend of political strategy and cultural appreciation.
