Assam BJP Leader Found Dead in Goalpara District; Probe On

In a shocking incident, the body of a female Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Jonali Nath, was found dumped near National Highway-17 in Goalpara district, according to local police reports.

While the family of the deceased suspects foul play and believes it to be a premeditated murder, the police are diligently investigating the case from all possible angles.

Jonali Nath held the position of District Secretary for the BJP in Goalpara. Her lifeless body was found in the Krishnai Salpar area on Sunday night.

According to police, family members said that she had left for Islampur at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday for personal matters. Around 7 p.m., her husband attempted to contact her but found her phone unreachable. Concerned, the family immediately notified the police, and her body was discovered around midnight.

The family members asserted that Jonali's body bore numerous signs of injuries. "This indicates that she was brutally murdered, and the perpetrators disposed of her body afterward," the family members conveyed to the media on Monday.

An investigation has been initiated by the Goalpara Police, with two suspects currently under detention.

Expressing condolences, BJP leader Ashok Singhal called for a thorough probe into the matter. "We will ensure a comprehensive investigation takes place to serve justice. We are committed to uncovering the truth behind this unfortunate incident," he expressed on his official Twitter account.

Assam Minister Bimal Borah also conveyed his sympathies to the grieving family regarding the tragic event. "I am deeply anguished and shocked by the devastating news of the untimely and tragic demise of Jonali Nath, the Goalpara District Secretary of BJP Assam. Those responsible for this heinous act will face the consequences, and justice will be served. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the grieving family, relatives, and well-wishers during this difficult time," he posted on his official Twitter account.
