14 killed in Assam attack; combing operations continue
Guwahati, Aug 5: As combing operations continue in Assam following the terrorist attack in which 14 have died, there is some confusion about the militants. Some of the militants, part of the attack, may have escaped and hiding in the dense forest areas at Assam's Kokrajhar area, sources informed.
The security forces have cordoned off the entire area and are carrying out search operations. Police officials say that the militants came to the scene at the Balazan market area in an auto rickshaw and fired indiscriminately at the people.
They hurled grenades the moment the security forces came into the picture. They engaged in a gun fight with the security forces following which some may have managed to give the slip sources say.
However the police team is still checking to see if some of the militants are holed up in the area. One terrorist was killed in the incident.
Meanwhile, the bordering areas were sealed as the police launched a massive combing operation to find the rest of the militants. The police suspect that the militants may be hiding in the forest area and may have not got out of the district.
