Memefest on social media over Twitter ticking off blue mark

The decision to do away with free 'blue ticks' to prominent celebrities, politicians and other people from the society have not gone well with the netizens.

Many of Twitter's high-profile users have lost the blue checks that helped verify their identity and distinguish them from impostors on the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

As Twitter ticks off blue check mark, funny memes flood social media platform

Notable personalities in India to have lost the twitter blue tick include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among others.

People now have to pay USD 8/month via the web and USD 11/month through in-app payment on iOS and Android for the blue tick mark, which was started 14 years ago.

However, the latest development has not gone well with many. Actor Prakash Raj mocked the social media platform as he wrote, "Bye bye #BlueTick .... It was nice having you....my journey ..my conversations..my sharing...will continue with my people ... you take care #justasking."

Another user named Richard Osman tweeted, "Farewell blue tick, old friend. Don't forget, always set your feed to 'Following' rather than 'For You'. Then you'll keep seeing the people you actually follow, and not people who've paid for attention."

Adding humour to the situation, one netizen said, "Hoping to be the first novelist to use the sentence, 'He was the sort of person who would have paid for a blue tick on Twitter'."

"A thing. I'm a bookshop who does a fair % of its sales because of Twitter. I had a blue tick. I no longer do. Spending £8 a month on something that will allow me to possibly sell more books seems OK. Still working out what to do though. Nobody will see this tweet, obvs!" fourth user stated.

Many created memes to express their reaction to the current development which can be found below:
