As Suspense Over Karnataka CM Race Continues, Siddaramaiah Supporters Start Celebration

The celebration among the supporters of Siddaramaiah has started, even as the suspense over Karnataka's next Chief Minister continues.

In the visuals shared by the news agency ANI, the supporters of the senior Congress leader are seen bursting firecrackers.

In another video, his supporters are seen pouring milk on his poster and chanting slogans for him outside his residence in Bengaluru.

The swearing-in ceremony is likely to be held on Thursday, thereby ending the four-day drama which began after the election results were out on Saturday.

On the other hand, Randeep Surjewala, Congress' Karnataka in-charge, said that deliberations are currently underway by party President Mallikarjun Kharge. "Whenever Congress makes a decision we will inform you. In the next 48-72 hours, we will have a new cabinet in Karnataka," he stated.

However, KPCC working president Eshwar Khandre, who met Congress National president Mallikarjun Kharge at the latter's residence, said that the name of the next CM will be announced today evening.

"I met the party's national president Mallikarjun Kharge and discussed the recent developments in Karnataka...Only high command will decide, we are 100 per cent united. Decision maybe by today evening," Khandare told reporters here.

The grand old party has emerged victorious in the recently-held Karnataka Assembly by winning 135 out of 224 seats. The BJP bagged 66 while JDS is reduced to 19.

On the other hand, outgoing CM Basavaraj Bommai has slammed Congress over the delay in the announcement of the Chief Minister.

"Congress is yet to finalise its CM candidate in spite of getting a majority. This shows the internal situation in the party. The aspirations of people are more important than politicking. Congress should choose a chief minister as soon as possible," Bommai said.
