The NGT wanted to know why water was being sprinkled with cranes instead of helicopters.
The National Green Tribunal has ordered a one week ban on construction in Delhi. The order was passed while the NGT was hearing a case relating to the rising pollution levels in the National Capital. The NGT today said that it is banning construction of any type in Delhi for a week.
Earlier the NGT came down heavily on the governments of Delhi and Punjab for failing to curb pollution. Why are you using cranes to sprinkle water with cranes instead of helicopters, the National Green Tribunal asked the Delhi government.Pulling up the Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government, the NGT sought to know if there was any data that showed the reduction of smog in the National Capital.

The NGT wanted to know why water was being sprinkled with cranes instead of helicopters. Further the NGT also sought to know what major steps the government had taken to reduce pollution in the city. The NGT also said that officers present are not revealing the ground reality. All we see is construction work on the Delhi-Chandigarh route that violates guidelines, the NGT also observed.
The NGT also pulled up the Punjab government on the same issue. Diwali and crop burning are known issues. Did you hold any meeting in August and September with regard to pollution. What have you done to prepare the state so that such issues are tackled the NGT also asked. Further the tribunal also asked the Punjab government if it had taken any steps to reduce crop burning.
The NGT also asked the Punjab government how many machines have you provided to the farmers for agriculture water disposal. If you have provided even Rs 1,000 to the farmers they would not have burnt the agriculture wastage like this, the NGT also told the Punjab government.
