Arvind Kejriwal To Go For 10-Day Vipassana Retreat In Punjab
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal will attend a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat in Punjab. This event will take place from March 5 to March 15, 2024, at a centre located in Hoshiarpur.
The AAP faced a major setback in the Delhi assembly elections, securing only 22 out of 70 seats. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 48 seats. This result marked a notable change in Delhi's political scene, ending AAP's dominance since 2015. Prominent leaders like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain lost their positions, prompting internal reflection within the party.

Political Landscape and Internal Dynamics
Following the electoral defeat, AAP's Delhi unit has been conducting organisational meetings to reassess strategies and plan for future actions. Gopal Rai, the party's convener, publicly stated that only leaders who performed well would be given responsibilities within the organisation. This approach aims to strengthen leadership and focus on recovery.
Kejriwal's visit to Punjab is noteworthy amid claims by Congress that several AAP MLAs are considering switching sides. Although AAP has denied these rumours, including those about replacing Bhagwant Mann as Punjab's Chief Minister, it highlights internal volatility. Maintaining unity and direction is crucial for AAP as it navigates post-election challenges.
Leadership Stability Amidst Speculations
The Aam Aadmi Party continues to deny any internal upheaval while asserting confidence in its leadership stability despite external speculations. As Kejriwal embarks on this meditative retreat, the party's organisational meetings aim to address electoral setbacks and establish a roadmap for rebuilding.
Kejriwal previously attended a similar session in December 2023 amidst legal challenges involving a money laundering case linked to excise policy. The retreat may serve as both a personal and political reset for him, offering time to reflect on the party's future strategies considering recent developments.
This meditation retreat comes nearly a month after AAP's significant loss in the Delhi Assembly elections. The recent election results marked a substantial shift in Delhi's political landscape, ending AAP's dominance since 2015.
The retreat is seen as a personal break for Kejriwal amidst these challenges.
