Arvind Kejriwal Can Not Become Chief Minister Again Even If AAP Wins Elections: Congress' Sandeep Dikshit

Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit has launched a strong critique against Arvind Kejriwal, the current MLA from New Delhi. Dikshit claims that Kejriwal cannot become the Chief Minister due to bail conditions imposed by the Supreme Court in an excise policy case. He emphasised that voters should be aware they are electing an MLA, not a future CM.

"When people go out to vote, they must know they are voting to elect an MLA and not the future CM of Delhi who will have the power to approve decisions," Sandeep Dikshit said.

Allegations Against Kejriwal

Dikshit further stated that Arvind Kejriwal's bail conditions prevent him from signing files or attending office. Consequently, Atishi was appointed as CM when Kejriwal was released. Dikshit expressed doubt over Kejriwal's chances of winning and asserted that even if he does, he will remain only an MLA.

"I want to tell people that given the conditions on which Kejriwal has been given bail, he cannot sign files or go to the office. So, when he came out he had to appoint someone as CM and therefore Atishi was given the position. If at all Kejriwal wins, which is not going to happen, he will only be an MLA," Dikshit told media.

Focus on Sheila Dikshit's Legacy

When asked about his campaign strategy, Dikshit confirmed that his mother Sheila Dikshit's legacy would be central. As a three-time CM of Delhi and former MLA from New Delhi, her achievements will be highlighted as part of Congress's journey. The party aims to remind voters of her contributions during her tenure.

"Undoubtedly, what my mother did as CM of Delhi will be highlighted and that is also the Congress party's journey and we will be reminding the people about all the work that was done during her tenure," he said.

Judicial Restrictions on Public Office

In September, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal in a CBI case related to an alleged excise policy scam. However, restrictions were placed on him visiting the CM's office or signing files unless necessary for LG approval. Consequently, Atishi took over as CM after his resignation.

The Supreme Court recently granted prospective bail to Partha Chatterjee in a money laundering case. While Chatterjee can continue as an MLA, he cannot hold any public office during trial proceedings. This decision reflects judicial reasoning seen earlier in Senthil Balaji's re-appointment issue in Tamil Nadu after his release on bail.

Dikshit also plans to scrutinise Kejriwal's performance both as CM and MLA during his campaign. He accused Kejriwal of failing to fulfil promises made during his tenure. As of now, there has been no response from AAP regarding these remarks.
