Army Undertakes Operation Trinetra To Flush Out Terrorists From Jammu And Kashmir

The Army Headquarters has held talks with both the Northern Army Command and 16 Corps commanders, while underscoring the importance of laid down standard operating procedures in counter-insurgency operations.

This comes after the Indian Army lost 10 troopers in terror attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch region in the past two months.

Army Undertakes Operation Trinetra To Flush Out Terrorists Jammu And Kashmir

The Indian Army and the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are conducting a full scale drill known as 'Operation Trinetra,' in a bid to flush out terrorists from Pakistan in the Pir Panjal region. This operation comes following the terror attack on an Army vehicle at the Bhatta Durian region in Poonch on April 20. On May 5 there was an ambush at Kesari Hill in the Rajouri sector in the run up to the G20 meeting on May 22-24.

The Indian Army lost five troopers each in both those encounters, including four who belonged to the elite 9 Paratroopers Battalion. Following the incidents, Army Chief, General Manoj Pande visited the site and took stock of the situation.

Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh too visited the site and boosted the morale of the troops who are involved in counter-terror operations.

Both the operations were carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The mastermind in the attack was Habibullah Malik aka Sajid Jutt's module based in Kotli. He resides Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Jutt has been involved in recruitment of terrorists and weapons drop with the help of drones. He is a designated terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the Union Home Ministry. He is married to a Kashmiri Muslim, who has moved to Pakistan. His son however lives in the Valley.

Since 2021, 24 troopers have been killed in the above mentioned area. The Army has now launched a massive operation to avenge these killings. The Army is aided by the security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir police. The main aim is also to reduce the number of civilian casualties in the area.
