Army Officer Killed, 3 Jawans Injured In Tent Fire Accident At Siachen Glacier

In a devastating incident at Siachen Glacier, a fire broke out in an Army tent, resulting in the unfortunate demise of one officer and leaving six others injured.

Among the injured, three jawans are in critical condition and have been urgently transferred to Chandigarh for medical treatment. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before reaching the ammunition tent, although a few tents were reportedly damaged in the blaze.

The deceased officer has been identified as Captain Anshuman Singh, serving as the Regimental Medical Officer. According to reports, he hailed from Lucknow.

Tragically, he succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained during the incident, as confirmed by a statement from the Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO).

While the injured officers are said to be in stable condition, according to the statement, the details regarding their specific injuries were not disclosed. It stated, "A fire incident occurred at Siachen Glacier on July 19, 2023, around 0300 hrs. Capt Anshuman Singh, Regimental Medical Officer, succumbed to serious burn injuries sustained during the unfortunate incident. Three other personnel suffered smoke inhalation and second-degree burns. They have been safely air evacuated for further treatment. The condition of the injured personnel is reported to be stable," shared the Defence PRO stationed in Leh.

The fire incident was reported at 3:30 am on Wednesday, and preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fire.
