New Delhi, August 20: In a heart-wrenching story, an army man's dead body was found recently, who passed away 18 years ago, in December 1996.

According to a TOI report, havildar Gaya Prasad of 15 Rajput battalion went missing in the world's coldest battlefield Siachen glacier , during an avalanche and never came back.

For his family, the most painful truth was that they could not even perform his last rites, but after 18 years, it seems that the almighty God listened finally their prayers as his 'preserved' body was miraculously found recently.

Two days back, some pilots found a half-buried body in snow and it was later identified as Gaya's body.

Prasad, who hailed from Kuraria village in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, will now be cremated with full military honours in front of his father, wife, son and two daughters.

Prasad's mother had passed away few years ago, in the hope that one day she could see her son once.

His body is being flown back to home from the Leh military hospital.

An army officer was quoted as saying, "He (Gaya) apparently fell into a deep crevice near the Khanda Drop Zone. A search operation was mounted but he could never be traced. As per norm, Gaya Prasad was declared a 'battle casualty' with full pension benefits to his family."
