Army jawan arrested for rape in Poonch

Jammu, Oct 8: An army jawan was today arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The accused, Haq Nawaz, who is deployed with 6 Engineers Regiment and presently posted in Kashmir, was on leave when he barged into the house of a lady in Mankote area of Mendhar tehsil on Tuesday night and allegedly raped her when she was alone, police said.

He also threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone and escaped from her house, they added.

A case has been registered following a complaint by the victim, police said, adding, the accused was arrested after a manhunt by the police.
