Army foils infiltration bid along LoC

Srinagar, Aug 9: Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Troops noticed a group of militants trying to sneak into this side from across the LoC at Jumagund Nar in Keran sector, an Army officer said.

He said the troops challenged the militants who indulged in indiscriminate firing. The troops returned the fire triggering an encounter, the officer said.

He said the operation was going on and further details were awaited. This is the second encounter between militants and army near the LoC in the district in the last 24 hours.

A soldier was killed and two others were injured in an overnight gunbattle in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara.
