Army Chief Gen Pande Assesses Security Situation in Eastern Ladakh
Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande conducted a thorough assessment of the security conditions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where a prolonged military standoff between Indian and Chinese troops persists. During his visit to the headquarters of the Fire and Fury Corps in Leh, Gen Pande was briefed in detail about the force's combat readiness.

The visit aimed to evaluate the security situation and preparedness in Ladakh, with commanders providing Gen Pande with updates on the current scenario and operational readiness. The Army Chief praised the officers and troops for their professionalism, commitment, and dedication to duty. This visit underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain a high level of vigilance and readiness along the LAC.
Since May 2020, Indian and Chinese militaries have been engaged in a standoff, with no full resolution of the border dispute achieved yet. Despite disengagement from several friction points, including the north and south banks of Pangong lake and in the Gogra area, tensions remain. India has consistently emphasized that peace and tranquility along the LAC are crucial for normalizing overall bilateral relations.
In January, Gen Pande described the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh as stable yet sensitive. He affirmed that Indian troops are maintaining a very high state of operational preparedness to handle any eventualities effectively. Furthermore, Gen Pande highlighted ongoing military and diplomatic talks between India and China aimed at returning to the status quo ante that existed in mid-2020.
This review by the Army Chief comes at a critical time when both nations continue to engage in dialogue to resolve their differences. The focus remains on ensuring peace along the border while preparing to address any challenges that may arise.
