Arif Mohammad Khan, Governor of Bihar, Likely To Be Next Vice President? Know Who Is He
Following the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar due to health reasons, political pundits have predicted that Arif Mohammad Khan, current Governor of Bihar, could be India's next Vice President. If speculations are to be believed, then many leaders inside BJP are also backing Arif Mohammad Khan for the second top position.
Arif Mohammad Khan is a senior Muslim politician, and if BJP puts the bet on him, they might get some good results in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections, in which, minority community plays a big role.
However, a final decision will be made only after Vice President's elections.
Reports said, BJP will announce its candidate for the Vice President's post once Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his official visits to the UK and Maldives.
Though Dhankhar appeared active in Rajya Sabha sessions, he had shown visible signs of illness during recent public engagements. His resignation has triggered immediate discussions within the NDA about a suitable replacement. Among the various names floated, Khan stands out as the top choice due to his long political career, ideological alignment with the BJP, and support for several of the Modi government's key reforms.

Who is Arif Mohammad Khan?
Arif Mohammad Khan is a veteran politician with decades of experience in Indian public life. Once a prominent member of the Congress party, Khan gained national attention in the 1980s when he resigned from Rajiv Gandhi's Cabinet over the government's controversial decision to overturn the Supreme Court verdict in the Shah Bano case-a landmark ruling supporting Muslim women's rights.
Over the years, Khan distanced himself from active politics but remained a vocal supporter of reform and secularism. He has consistently opposed religious extremism and appeasement politics, which has brought him closer ideologically to the BJP.
In recent years, the Modi government appointed him as Governor of Kerala and later Bihar, recognizing his administrative abilities and principled stand on various national issues. Khan strongly backed legislation like the abolition of triple talaq and changes to the Waqf Act, often defending these moves publicly with sharp and articulate arguments.
His reputation as a reformist, combined with his broad political experience and strong oratory skills, make him a compelling choice for the Vice President's office.
