APAAR Card: Govt To Introduce Unique ID For All School Students

As a part of the National Education Policy(NEP) 2020, the Union Ministry has come up with a plan to create unique ID numbers for school students across India.

The government is now planning to implement a unique identification number for students in both private and government schools, known as the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID. This is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's "One Nation, One Student ID" initiative.

APAAR Card: Govt To Introduce Unique ID For All School Students

The APAAR ID will be a lifelong identifier that will track students' educational journeys and achievements from pre-primary to higher education. It will be linked to the student's Aadhaar ID but will not replace it.

The government will seek consent from parents before creating an APAAR ID for their child. Parents can also withdraw their consent at any time.

State education departments have directed educational institutions to organize meetings between teachers and parents from October 16 to October 18 to discuss the importance and relevance of establishing an APAAR ID for students. Teachers will also update students' blood group, height, and weight, as this information will be used to create the APAAR ID.

The government has assured that student data will remain confidential and will only be shared with government agencies when necessary.
