AP: 23 missing as boat capsizes in Godavari river

A boat carrying around 40 people was capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Around 17 people have been rescued while 23 people are still missing. Rescue operations underway.

The incident occurred near Manturu in Devipatnam block of East Godavari district around 5 p.m.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Vijayawada & Visakhapatnam and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Kakinada & Visakhapatnam have been deployed for rescue operations in the Godavari boat capsize incident.

Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam said,''A Dornier aircraft with diving teams sent to Rajahmundry (where boat capsized in East Godavari), additional diving teams are being sent by 2 helicopters early Wednesday morning to join rescue operations.''
