Anti-Kashmiri banner: UP Navnirman Sena's Amit Jani arrested
The banner, which came to light on Friday, had a photograph of Amit Jani.
Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena's Amit Jani was on Saturday arrested over a banner warning Kashmiris of dire consequences if they do not leave the state.
The banner, which surfaced in Meerut on Friday, read, "Bharatiya Sena pe pattar maarne vale Kashmiriyon ka bahishkar." (Ostracise Kashmiris for pelting stones on Indian Army). It further read, "Kashmiriyon, Uttar Pradesh chodo, varna....." (Kashmiris leave UP, or else....).
The banner had an image of stone pelters in Kashmir. It also had a photograph of Amit Jani who had allegedly put up the banner.
Following the controversy, the UP police registered an FIR against Amit Jani.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh criticised such acts. He said that the safety of Kashmiris across the country is of prime importance. All states must take necessary steps to ensure their safety, he also said.
