New Delhi, Mar 10: In yet another anti-India statement, hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani said Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and not a part of India. This divisive statement from the Hurriyat shark will once again make matters worse for the Narendra Modi government which already facing criticism from all corners over J&K government's actions.

J&K isn't a part of India: Geelani

"No matter which government comes to power no change will come in Jammu and Kashmir. J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's praise of Hurriyat was a mere political stunt. India should accept the reality that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and is not a part of India," he said.

Soon after taking oath as J&K's new Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed had praised both Hurriyat and Pakistan for ensuring peaceful polls in the state.

On the issue of release of separatist Masrat Alam from prison, Geelani, who is known for making separatist remarks, said Alam, a hardline separatist, is known for his proximity to Geelani.

Kicking off yet another controversy, the octogenarian separatist leader on Monday met Pakistan's high commissioner in New Delhi.

"Geelani met Abdul Basit at the Pakistan high commission," a source in the Hurriyat group headed by Geelani told IANS here.

The sources said the two discussed the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the Indian foreign secretary's just ended visit to Islamabad.

"Geelani has been invited to Pakistan to attend the 'Youm-e-Pakistan' (Pakistan Day) celebrations on March 23," the source said.

"More separatist leaders from Kashmir are likely to meet the high commissioner in the coming days," the source added.

Geelani has been in Delhi for the last three months under medical advice. He has been advised to avoid the harsh winter of the Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile, terming the meeting between Geelani and Basit at New Delhi as "an insult to India", the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanded his arrest.

"The meeting (between Geelani and Basit) has come at a time when Parliament is in session and, more importantly, when high-level talks have resumed between India and Pakistan.

"The action of the Kashmiri separatist leader is obviously an insult to India. He should be arrested and tried for sedition," VHP international working president Praveen Togadia said.
