Another Delhi resident gets fake Rs 2,000 note from ATM

New Delhi, March 9: A Delhi resident has filed a complaint after receiving a fake Rs 2,000 note from an automated teller machine of a private bank in south Delhi, the police said on Thursday.

Chandan Rai, who works in a private company, withdrew the money -- which later turned out to be fake -- from the ICICI Bank's ATM in Garhi area on Tuesday.

"Rai withdrew the Rs 2,000 note with 'Children Bank of India' and 'churan' written on it from the ATM. He received a message from his bank regarding deduction of Rs 2,000 from his bank account," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Banniya said.

Rai filed a complaint at the Amar Colony police station. A native of Bihar, he stays in Janata Camp at Nehru Nagar and maintains an account with the Bank of Baroda.

Banniya said the police are examining closed-circuit television footage at the ATM and questioning persons deployed with a cash van who stacked up the cash in the ATM.

Earlier on February 6, a resident of Sangam Vihar in south Delhi had withdrawn Rs 8,000 in Rs 2,000 denomination, which turned out to be fake.
