Andhra Stampede Kills 10: From Karur To RCB Victory Celebration, Major Stampedes In 2025

It was meant to be a morning of devotion. On Ekadashi, when hundreds visit temples in search of blessings and ritual observance, the Kasibugga Venkateswara Swamy temple filled early. But celebration turned to calamity on Saturday when a mass surge tore down temporary railings and sent devotees crashing to the ground.

As per the reports, at least 10 people have been killed and many more were injured.

However, India has witnessed several deadly stampede incidents in 2024 and 2025, especially at religious gatherings, political events, and major celebrations. Here is a recent list of major incidents with dates, locations, and casualties:

Karur, Tamil Nadu (September 27, 2025): A political rally for actor Vijay led to a stampede that killed 41 people and injured over 124, including children.

Bengaluru, Karnataka (June 4, 2025): During Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL victory celebrations at Chinnaswamy Stadium, a crowd crush killed 11 people and injured at least 33.

Goa (May 3, 2025): Stampede at Shri Lairai Devi Temple festival killed 7 and injured over 80 as thousands gathered for the annual jatra.

New Delhi Railway Station (February 15, 2025): 18 people died in a stampede as pilgrims were trying to board trains for Maha Kumbh Mela.

Maha Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh (January 29, 2025): Thirty people killed and over 60 injured during the auspicious Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual.

Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh (January 8, 2025): Stampede during token distribution for Vaikuntha Dwara Darshanam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple left six dead and dozens injured.

Hyderabad, Telangana (December 4, 2024): Stampede at Sandhya Theatre during screening of 'Pushpa 2' killed a woman and injured a boy.​

Banavar, Bihar (August 12, 2024): Seven dead during puja at Baba Siddhanath temple due to excessive crowding.​

Hathras, Uttar Pradesh (July 2, 2024): Massive religious gathering led to a stampede that killed at least 121 people and injured dozens more.​

Most stampedes are linked to religious festivals, overcrowded railway stations, and political events attracting huge crowds.​

Inadequate crowd control and poor infrastructure are cited as major reasons for these deadly incidents
