Andhra EC orders probe against Jagan Mohan Reddy over 'shoot Naidu' comment
TDP and YSR Congress are in a prestige battle over the Nandyal byelections
The Andhra Pradesh state election commission has ordered a probe against YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy's inflammatory comments. The Deputy Commission of Kurnool will investigate into Jagan's 'nothing wrong in shooting Chandrababu Naidu in public' comment.
During an election rally in Nandyal on Friday, the YSR Congress chief made comments that were termed inciteful and inflammatory by TDP workers. A police complaint was eventually filed after which the matter was escalated to the state election commission.
Nothing wrong in shooting Chandrababu Naidu dead, says YSR Chief Jagan
The TDP is also said to be considering legal action against Jagan for his statements. In the complaint filed against the YSR chief, Chandrababu Naidu's party workers alleged that Jagan promoted violence against the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and encouraged people to shoot him.
The Nandyal seat in Rayalaseema area of Andhra Pradesh, a region said to be Jagan's bastion, is going into bypolls following the death of MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy. The TDP has fielded Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy while the YSR Congress has fielded turncoat Silpa Mohan Reddy. The bypoll is scheduled to be held on August 23.
