Andhra CM N Chandrababu Naidu Announces Gratuity, Paid Maternity Leave, Retirement Age Hike For ASHA Workers

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken significant steps to support Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA). He approved gratuity payments, extended paid maternity leave, and increased the retirement age for these workers. ASHA workers are essential in connecting communities with healthcare services.

Gratuity and Retirement Benefits

The Chief Minister's decision includes a gratuity of Rs 1.50 lakh for ASHA workers who complete 30 years of service. This move is expected to benefit 42,752 workers. Additionally, the retirement age for ASHA workers has been raised from 60 to 62 years.

Maternity Leave Extension

Naidu also approved an extension of paid maternity leave for eligible health workers. They will now receive 180 days of paid leave for their first two deliveries. This decision aims to provide better support for women in the workforce.

Support from Union Minister

Union Minister Suresh Gopi expressed his support for ASHA workers protesting in Kerala. They are demanding higher honorariums and retirement benefits. Gopi assured them that he would raise their concerns with the central government.

During his visit to the protest site, Gopi emphasized the importance of not undermining their efforts. "No one should belittle the cooperative system of any political ideology by ultimately dismissing it," he stated.

If ASHA workers feel insecure, Gopi promised to discuss their issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Health Minister. His commitment highlights the government's attention to these vital healthcare workers' needs.
