Anant Kumar Singh Wins Mokama Seat, Keeps Political Stronghold Despite Legal Challenges

Anant Kumar Singh, popularly known as Chhote Sarkar, has won Bihar's Mokama constituency once again. Recognised for his trademark white attire and dark sunglasses, Singh has long been a towering figure in the region's politics. Even with multiple criminal cases and periods in jail, his grassroots appeal remains largely unaffected-making him one of Mokama's most influential leaders.

As counting began at 8 a.m. for the Mokama Assembly seat, Singh, contesting on a Janata Dal (United) ticket, quickly surged ahead. He secured an early lead with 4,524 votes, marking a considerable jump of 2,716 votes from the initial rounds.

Anant Singh defeated Veena Devi of the RJD by a margin of 28206 votes. He got 91416 votes, while Veena Devi got 63210 votes. Priyadarshi Piyush of the Jan Suraaj Party is far behind with 19365 votes.

Why Mokama Matters

Mokama remains one of Bihar's most politically sensitive and closely watched seats. Anant Singh has been synonymous with this constituency for nearly twenty years. He clinched victories in 2005 and 2010 as a JD(U) candidate, repeated the feat as an independent in 2015, and won again in 2020 after joining the RJD. His political trajectory took a sharp turn in 2022, when a criminal conviction led to his disqualification. His wife, Neelam Devi, then contested the bypoll and emerged victorious.

Now back in the JD(U) fold, Singh is making a determined push to reclaim the seat that has defined his political legacy.

This election pits Singh against two strong contenders-Veena Devi of the Mahagathbandhan and Priyadarshi Piyush aligned with Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj movement. However, early numbers suggest that Singh's deep-rooted network, long-standing loyalty among voters, and unmistakable presence continue to work in his favour.
