Anant Chaturdashi 2023: Check Out Date, Time And Significance

Anant Chaturdashi holds a profound spiritual significance. It is believed that observing the rituals of this festival can resolve issues relating to the cycle of birth and death. In Hindu mythology, "Anant" symbolizes the eternal or infinite energy of the divine, and "Chaturdashi" refers to the 14th day of the lunar fortnight. The festival commemorates the immortality and divine energy of the Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesh.

Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated on the 14th day of the bright fortnight in the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu lunar calendar, which typically falls in late August or early September. The date may vary each year based on the lunar cycle. The festival is celebrated across several states in India, with Maharashtra known for its grand Ganesh Visarjan, and unique cultural events each year.

The celebration begins with early morning rituals, including a holy bath, prayers, and the preparation of a sacred thread called Anant Sutra. This thread is tied as a symbol of a promise made to Lord Vishnu, seeking his blessings for eternal prosperity. The day is filled with chants, hymns, fasting, feasts, and the grand Visarjan (immersion) of the Ganpati idol in the sea, river or any water body nearby. Jains, on the other hand, observe this day with focused solitude, meditation, and fast-breaking ceremonies.

Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated on Chaturdashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This year, Anant Chaturdashi will occur on September 28, 2023.
