Amritpal Singh surrendered like a warrior: Fugitive preachers mom reacts

Speaking to news agency ANI, Amritpal Singh's mother Balwinder Kaur said that he surrendered before the cops like "a warrior." "We saw the news and came to know that he has surrendered. I felt proud that he surrendered like a warrior...We will fight a legal battle and we will also go & meet him at the earliest...," ANI quoted her in a tweet.

Tarsem Singh, the father of 'Waris Punjab De' chief, told the news agency that her son was fighting against the drug menace in Punjab.

Tarsem Singh said that he came to know about the development through news channels. "Through TV we came to know that he surrendered before the Police. We too wanted the same because people were being harassed due to him...We will fight the case, the entire community should fight it, he was working to save people from the drug menace; an offer has been made to us for it...," he said.

The Khalistani sympathiser had been on the run since March 18 when a police crackdown was launched against him and his aides. He and his associates were booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempting to murder, attacking police personnel, and creating obstructions in public servants' lawful discharge of duty.

Responding to the development, Amritpal Singh's uncle Sukhchain Singh said the family will fight the legal battle against his arrest. "We came to know today morning that Amritpal Singh has surrendered. We were thinking he was in police custody. He never contacted his family," Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.

The Punjab cops arrested Amritpal Singh around 6.45 am on Sunday in Moga district.

The Punjab Police has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the Khalistan sympathizer.

Meanwhile, he has been brought aboard a special flight from Bathinda after his arrest by Punjab Police.

He will be taken to the town's central jail which has been converted into a high security jail ever since some of Singh's associates were brought here to be lodged. "His flight landed at 2:20 pm. After necessary formalities, he will be taken to Dibrugarh Central Jail in a security convoy," a senior official told PTI.
