Amit Thackeray Announces Electoral Debut from Mahim Assembly Seat in Maharashtra Elections

Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, is set to contest from the Mahim assembly seat in central Mumbai. This marks his first foray into electoral politics. The MNS has announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra elections. Amit becomes the third member of the Thackeray family to enter the electoral arena.

Amit Thackerays Electoral Debut in Mahim

Mahim is a diverse constituency with a mix of upper-class Maharashtrian voters and a significant cosmopolitan and minority presence. The Shiv Sena headquarters, now aligned with Uddhav Thackeray's faction, is located here. Since 1990, either the undivided Shiv Sena or the MNS has held this seat. In 2009, Nitin Sardesai from MNS won in Mahim.

Thackeray Family's Political Journey

Raj Thackeray, despite being the MNS chief, has never contested an election himself. Amit's second cousin, Aaditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray, entered politics by winning the Worli seat in the 2019 assembly elections. Uddhav Thackeray was elected to the legislative council in 2020 after becoming Maharashtra's chief minister.

The MNS has released its initial list of 45 candidates for the polls scheduled on November 20. Sixteen of these seats are in Mumbai. Sandeep Deshpande will contest from Worli in south-central Mumbai, where he is expected to face Aaditya Thackeray. Pramod Patil, the sole MNS MLA from the previous assembly, will run again from Kalyan rural seat in Thane district.

MNS Candidate Announcements

The party has also fielded Avinash Jadhav from Thane city. The announcement of candidates reflects MNS's strategy to strengthen its presence in key constituencies across Mumbai and neighbouring areas. The upcoming elections are crucial for the party as it aims to expand its influence in Maharashtra politics.

The Mahim constituency holds strategic importance due to its demographic diversity and political history. With Amit Thackeray entering the fray, the election battle in this region is expected to be closely watched. The outcome will not only impact local politics but also signify the evolving dynamics within the broader political landscape of Maharashtra.
