Amit Shah Targets TMC for 'Appeasement, Mafia, Corruption' in West Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his recent rallies in West Bengal, launched a scathing critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing them of fostering a culture of "tushtikaran appeasement, mafia, and corruption." His comments came amidst the backdrop of the contentious Sandeshkhali issue, where allegations of sexual abuse against TMC leaders have emerged. Shah's addresses in Ranaghat and Birbhum Lok Sabha constituencies were marked by sharp criticisms of the TMC's governance, particularly highlighting the alleged religious-based torture of women in Sandeshkhali.

Shah Blasts TMC on Corruption

Shah accused Banerjee of transforming the TMC's foundational slogan from ‘Maa Mati Manush’ to what he termed ‘mullah madrasa mafia,’ attributing this shift to the politics of appeasement. He further criticized Banerjee for her stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), alleging that her opposition stems from a prioritization of infiltrators as a vote bank over providing citizenship to Hindu and Sikh refugees. The Home Minister assured that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, every refugee would be granted citizenship, reinforcing the central government's commitment to the CAA.

The issue of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district was highlighted by Shah as a significant failure on Banerjee's part, accusing her of protecting culprits involved in sexual abuse allegations. Despite a high court order mandating an investigation, Shah claimed that Banerjee hindered the process, leading to the CBI taking over the probe. He vowed that the BJP would ensure justice for the victims by apprehending and punishing those responsible for the atrocities.

Addressing a significant Matua community gathering in Ranaghat, Shah reiterated his critique of Banerjee's opposition to the CAA and her alleged support for infiltrators over refugees. He contrasted this with the BJP's promise to secure citizenship for refugees, emphasizing a strong stance against infiltration.

Corruption within the TMC was another focal point of Shah's address. He referenced the arrest of Partha Chatterjee in connection with a school jobs scam, pointing out that substantial sums of money meant for the public were allegedly misappropriated by TMC officials. Shah accused Banerjee of criticizing central agencies like the CBI and ED for their investigative actions in West Bengal, which were court-mandated.

The Home Minister set an ambitious target for the BJP in West Bengal, aiming to secure more than 30 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. He promised that achieving this goal would lead to an end to what he described as 'syndicate raj' under TMC rule. His campaign day concluded with a roadshow in Asansol in support of BJP candidate S S Ahluwalia, where he urged voters to reject the TMC government due to its alleged failures and atrocities.

In response to Shah's allegations, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh dismissed them as baseless and politically motivated. Ghosh questioned Shah's silence on viral videos related to Sandeshkhali and pointed out that individuals facing corruption charges had joined the BJP.

Shah's remarks underscore a deepening political rift in West Bengal, with both the BJP and TMC engaging in a heated exchange of accusations ahead of crucial electoral contests. The discourse around issues such as citizenship rights, religious-based violence, and corruption highlights the complex socio-political landscape in which these battles are being fought.
