Amidst stand off, NSA Ajit Doval to visit China next week

Earlier, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj said that India is capable of defending itself.

National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval will travel to China next week to attend the BRICS summit. His visit is being keenly watched in the midst of a standoff between India and China.

The Foreign ministry said that diplomatic channels between India and China have not been impeded and the NSA would travel to China. Diplomatic channels are open for a resolution of the standoff. There is no immediate threat from China. There has also been close consultation with Bhutan which is part of our tradition, the spokesperson for the Ministry for External Affairs said.

Further the spokesperson also added that in such sensitive matters it is not about who has made the the offer and who has reacted or not. It is best left to the diplomats to conduct what they are good at.

While there is no official word on whether the border issue would be taken up, Doval will meet with his counterpart during the summit. Sources however had indicated to OneIndia that the NSA would take up the border issue and look to find an amicable solution.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj said that India is capable of defending itself against China. She said at the Rajya Sabha that China had unilaterally tried to change the status quo at the tri-junction of India, Bhutan and China. We are involved in tri-junction this time and its directly related to us, if china will change that.. that is threat to our security, all countries are supporting us.
