Amethi Wedding Turns Tragic: Dispute Over Tandoori Roti Ends Up In Teens Getting Bludgeoned To Death

It was a jolly evening in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, where people had gathered to attend a wedding. However, in a catastrophic turn of events, a petty dispute over tandoori rotis resulted in the brutal deaths of two teenagers.

According to a report by the Times of India, 17-year-old Ashish and 18-year-old Ravi were beaten to death following a verbal altercation at a food stall during the event.

Police stated that the incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, as Ashish and Ravi queued for food at the tandoori roti counter.

A disagreement broke out between them and Rohit-the groom's cousin-along with some of his friends and other guests. Witnesses said the situation escalated after Rohit's group felt insulted and humiliated by the teenagers' behaviour.

Iron rods used in attack

After leaving the wedding with a group of friends, Ashish and Ravi were pursued by Rohit and his associates, who were reportedly armed with iron rods, hockey sticks, and lathis.

Around 1 a.m., they caught up with the boys. While some of their friends managed to escape, the two cousins were not as fortunate. They were viciously assaulted with fists and weapons, left severely injured and bleeding on the road.

Passersby found them and rushed them to a local hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were referred first to AIIMS Rae Bareli and then to Lucknow. Tragically, Ashish died en route to the hospital, and Ravi was declared dead upon arrival.

Shiv Bahadur, Ashish's father, expressed disbelief and grief at the horrific turn of events. "My son went to a wedding and never returned. Both were students, full of promises. And this happened over a few rotis?" he lamented.

Following his complaint, an FIR was registered against 13 individuals-including eight named and five unidentified-under charges of murder and rioting. Amethi Additional SP Harendra Kumar confirmed that three of the named suspects have been detained, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the others.
