Outrage Erupts in Amethi as Family Accuses Doctors of Medical Negligence Resulting in Woman's Death

The family members of a 22-year-old woman held a protest outside Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, alleging the doctors' negligence led to her death. The police have deployed additional forces near the hospital to maintain law and order. The deceased was identified as Divya who had been admitted for gallbladder stones operation but went into coma before the procedure.

Amethi in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a wave of protest on September 16, as the family members of a deceased 22-year-old woman held her body outside Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, blaming the doctors for her untimely death. The situation escalated to such an extent that additional police force had to be deployed near the hospital premises to maintain law and order.

The Triggering Incident

Medical Negligence

Divya, the deceased young lady, was brought to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital by her family after she complained of severe stomach ache. Post examination, it was suggested by the doctor that she needed an operation for gallbladder stones removal. However, things took a turn for worse when Divya fell into coma before the operation could take place. She remained in this state at the hospital for over thirty hours before being referred to Lucknow.

Allegations Against Hospital Staff

Anuj Shukla, Divya's husband accused medical negligence as being responsible for his wife’s tragic demise. He alleged that not only did she fall into coma due to their carelessness but also suffered a heart attack while still in hospital care. Following Divya's death around 4 am on Saturday in Lucknow, Shukla filed an official complaint against the involved doctors.

Hospital Management's Response

In response to these allegations and subsequent protests, Awadhesh Sharma - General Manager of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital stated that Divya had shown adverse reaction towards anesthesia administered prior to surgery which led her into coma and eventual death. He further shared that he received information about Divya’s passing away early Saturday morning.

Civil Unrest and Police Involvement

The news of Divya's death sparked outrage among local villagers leading them to start protesting around 8 pm. The deceased's body was kept outside the hospital as a grim reminder of what they believed to be gross medical negligence. To prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, additional police force was deployed in the vicinity.

In conclusion, Divya's unfortunate death has raised serious questions about the quality of medical care available to patients in rural areas and smaller towns like Amethi. While it is crucial for authorities to thoroughly investigate this case and bring justice to Divya’s grieving family, it is equally imperative that measures are put into place to ensure such incidents do not recur. Medical institutions must prioritize patient safety above all else and take immediate steps towards improving their healthcare standards.
