Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has outlined an ambitious vision to strengthen bilateral ties across defense, trade, and emerging technologies, emphasising a results-driven approach rooted in strategic cooperation.

Drawing from his previous role as Assistant to former U.S. President Donald Trump and Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House, Gor said his leadership style is shaped by a focus on delivering tangible outcomes.

"Every meeting and every call is aimed at securing a win for the United States while strengthening our bilateral relationship," he said, underscoring a pragmatic and outcome-oriented diplomatic approach.
Early Impressions and Personal Connect
Reflecting on his long-standing connection with India, Gor recalled his first visit nearly 15 years ago, describing the country's culture, diversity, and people as deeply impactful.
"The warmth and kindness of the Indian people left a lasting impression on me. Returning now in a different role, that friendliness remains unchanged," he said.
He also pointed to strong personal ties at the leadership level, noting that former President Trump shares a close rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-something he believes further strengthens bilateral engagement.
Defense and Strategic Cooperation at the Core
Ambassador Gor identified defense and security cooperation as the cornerstone of U.S.-India relations. He highlighted ongoing collaboration under the Major Defense Partnership, including a new 10-year framework focused on industrial cooperation, technology sharing, and operational coordination.
He also emphasised joint military exercises such as Malabar, Tiger Triumph, and Cope India as key to improving interoperability between the two nations.
Additionally, Gor pointed to the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) as a critical platform for aligning strategic interests and maintaining regional stability.
Economic Growth and Trade Expansion
On the economic front, Gor stressed the transformative potential of expanding bilateral trade and investment. He noted that India's rapidly growing economy and infrastructure needs present significant opportunities for American industries.
"From energy and aviation to advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure, this is a clear win-win situation for both countries," he said.
Supply Chains and Critical Technologies
The ambassador also highlighted growing cooperation in securing critical supply chains, particularly in semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals.
He referenced the U.S.-India COMPACT framework and India's participation in the Pax Silica Declaration as key steps toward reducing dependency on single-source supply chains and enhancing resilience.
"These initiatives ensure our economic and national security interests remain aligned," he noted.
Regional Stability and Strategic Role
Addressing broader geopolitical dynamics, Gor said the United States aims to play a central role in promoting economic growth and stability across South and Central Asia.
He cited ongoing investments in countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, alongside strengthened trade ties with India, as part of a broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity.
On security, he reiterated Washington's commitment to counterterrorism and combating transnational threats, stressing that economic stability and security are closely linked.
Collaboration on Artificial Intelligence
Ambassador Gor also underscored the growing importance of collaboration in artificial intelligence, referencing the recent AI Impact Summit in New Delhi as a significant platform for engagement.
"AI is already shaping our daily lives. The challenge is to harness its benefits while maintaining open and flexible cooperation between nations like the U.S. and India," he said, cautioning against overly centralised global regulation.
Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Gor said his goal is to elevate the U.S.-India partnership into the defining strategic relationship of the 21st century.
He emphasised that the success of this partnership should translate into tangible benefits for citizens in both countries-from expanded agricultural exports to joint breakthroughs in science and technology, and enhanced military cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
"The U.S.-India relationship is built on shared democratic values, mutual prosperity, and common security interests that will shape the global order for generations," he said.
