Amazon India Head Manish Tiwary Resigns, Here's Why
In a notable shift within the e-commerce industry, Manish Tiwary, Amazon India's head, has decided to resign. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed this development but did not provide details about his future plans. "Manish Tiwary, Country Manager for Amazon India, has decided to pursue an opportunity outside of the company Manish's leadership over the last eight years has been in delivering for customers and sellers, making Amazon.in the preferred marketplace in India," stated the spokesperson.
Tiwary joined Amazon India in 2016 after a successful tenure at Unilever, a leading consumer goods company. Over his eight and a half years with Amazon, he significantly contributed to the company's growth and expansion in India. His leadership helped navigate various challenges and achieve key milestones.

Amazon's Senior VP to Stay Engaged with Indian Team
Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets at Amazon, will continue to stay closely connected with the team in India. The company reiterated that India remains a crucial market for them. Amidst this leadership change, Amazon is also dealing with an investigation into alleged preferential treatment towards certain vendors on its Indian platform, which it has denied.
Despite confirming his resignation, Tiwary will remain with Amazon until October 2024 to ensure a smooth transition. The company has yet to announce his successor as it prepares for this significant leadership change during a competitive phase in India's e-commerce sector.
Allegations and Market Opportunities
In 2021, allegations surfaced that Amazon had systematically promoted its own product lines by creating counterfeit goods and manipulating search results in India. The company has denied these claims. Nevertheless, India continues to be a vast market offering numerous opportunities for Amazon.
Manish Tiwary's departure marks the end of an era for Amazon India. His contributions have been pivotal in establishing Amazon.in as a leading marketplace in the country. As he moves on to new opportunities, the e-commerce giant faces both challenges and prospects in maintaining its stronghold in the Indian market.
